Rangle River

1h 18m Western, Drama, Action, Adventure, Romance 1936

Also known as Men with Whips, this pulpy Australian film western combines singing cowboys, romance, mystery and adventure.

Marion (Margaret Dare) returns home from Europe to find her father’s cattle station in trouble. Rangle River, which crosses their property, is mysteriously drying up – is the rival station owner next door trying to shut them down? Marion is initially treated with hostility by Dick Drake (imported American star Victor Jory), who is managing the property for her father. It’s left to the upper-class Reggie (Robert Coote), visiting from England, to investigate the cause of the water shortage. Also known as MEN WITH WHIPS, this pulpy Australian film western features romance, adventure, singing cowboys, a stockwhip showdown, and an unexpected meet cute between the male leads Dick and Reggie. The American dentist-turned-adventure novelist Zane Grey wrote the story while in Australia big-game fishing. RANGLE RIVER was filmed in NSW near Gloucester and in the Burragorang Valley and features uncredited camerawork from future Australian Oscar-winner Damien Parer.
