Darwin's Brave New World: Evolutions
Charles Darwin gathers evidence for his theory of evolution in secret, while facing a personal tragedy and an unexpected rival.
Darwin turns his back on scientific celebrity and becomes a virtual recluse while he secretly gathers evidence for his theory of evolution. His faith is shattered by the death of his daughter, but he has a steadfast supporter in botanist Joseph Hooker. Darwin is also helped by the return from Australasia of one of his greatest allies, Thomas Huxley. Hooker and Huxley encourage Darwin to publish his ideas, but then a letter arrives from Indonesia with news of an evolutionary theory almost identical to Darwin’s. Darwin is shattered: has 20 years of work come to nothing?
